Apple continues to improve the iPod, and with the fifth-generation iPod, they appear to have noticed that sport buffs make up a significant portion of iPod users. The newest nano includes a built-in pedometer that needs no separate sensor to operate.
Use the nano’s pedometer to record your daily steps taken, if you like, or just use it while you’re working out. It’s up to you. Your steps-taken counter can be displayed on any of several screens as you use the iPod nano for doing other things, and it can be uploaded to the Nikeplus.com website and it can be shared on Facebook. Get a competition going with your friends circle.
This is a simple technology, it counts steps. Based on that count, it estimates calories. This isn’t a GPS-based app that tracks speed or distance, but the pedometer is easy to use and surprisingly accurate. Carry your iPod in your pocket, as normal, and the Pedometer function will record your steps within 5% of what a dedicated pedometer strapped to your foot will do. Set the Pedometer function to Manual to only operate when you’re working out, or to Always-On to record the steps of your daily life. A graphical interface lets you view your steps counted during the current session (particularly useful on the Manual setting), as well as elapsed time and an estimate of calorie consumption.
