How to buy a bike: 5 things to avoid

City Bikes has written an article about what to avoid when buying a bike, which is:bike2

  1. Bad fit
  2. Too many gears
  3. Not functional
  4. Obsessing about weight
  5. Wrong tires

The advice presented is not oriented towards sport bikes, but it gives some good tips, like: “Be realistic about where you want to ride. If you enjoy bike trails, 90% are hard packed or even paved, with the odd bit of large loose gravel or real dirt. Here, street tires will work just fine. Fitting knobby off-road tires for the sake of a few metres of rough stuff could make the rest of your riding literally a drag. Remember the mantra: There Is No Shame In Walking Your Bike. By walking your bike some of the time, you’re still way ahead of walking ALL of the time.”
